Work Table

  •  A tutorial to demonstrate Solids from 2D concepts and modifications.
    • This 2D/3D tutorial contains:
      • Setting up Layer Colors
      • Using Layer Toolbox
      • Drawing a Box
      • Duplicating
      • Rotating
      • Resizing
      • Multi-layer Editing functions
      • Section Delete
      • Extruding
      • Move to Point Relative/Reference Point
  •  Start a new drawing in 2D mode.

  •  Open Layers options by hitting 'L'

  •  Set up 4 layers with Assigned Colors.

    • Use mine or choose your own.

    • Click each Layer and use the checkboxes and Color Button to set these up.

    • Click 'Save as default' if you want to save them for future drawings.

    • Click OK.

  •  Right-click on any toolbox and choose
    Layer Toolbox'
    from the list.

    • Make sure Layer 1 is active.

 

  •  Start in 2D with a Box drawn X=48, Y=24

    • Make sure 'Save as line' is not checked, we want a Plane.

    • This is the Table top.

  •  In the Layer Toolbox, choose Layer 2.
  •  Draw a Box starting with a Gravity Snap and then Point Relative X=1.5, Y=24.
    • These are 2x4's for the frame.
  •  Select the Box by the corner shown and Duplicate ('N') to point shown.

  •  Duplicate a second copy back on top of the first.

 

  •  Hit 'R' to Rotate.
  •  Drag the copy clockwise till its laying horizontal.
  •  With Resizing Handles drag the middle handle to a Gravity Snap point as shown.
  •  Select the Box on the corner shown and Duplicate it to the upper corner.
  •  Go to Layer 3.
  •  Draw a Box 3.5 x 1.5 as shown.
    • This is for the legs.
  •  Select the Box and Duplicate it to the far corner.
  •  Select that box by the necessary corners and Duplicate it to the other corners.
  •  Select Layer 4 using the Layer Options ('L').
  •  Click 'Lock All'.
  •  Draw a Box by Gravity Snapping to points 1 and 2.
    • This is for the Lower Shelf.
  •  Now use 'Section|Section Delete' and Gravity Snap to the corner of the small box, then drag up and over past the corner of the Red box and set a second point.
  •  This cut the corner out of the Red Box.
  •  Repeat for the other corners.
  •  Go to 3D mode.
  •  On the Layer Toolbox uncheck 'Enable Multilayer Editing.
    • The Icon with the stacked pages.
    • It should be 'poped-out' and not depressed.
  •  Hit OK.
  •  Hit CTRL+R to refresh the drawing.
  •  Select Layer 1.
  •  Hit CTRL+A.
    • Only the TOP should get selected, if not hit ESC and do the Multi Layer Edit Icon sequence again. Then CTRL+R to refresh.
  •  Hit 'X' to Extrude. Gravity Snap to a corner and then use Point Relative, enter Y=3/4, hit ENTER.
  •  Hit ESC.
  •  Select Layer 2.
  •  Hit CTRL+A.
  •  Hit 'X' and Snap to a corner.
  •  Hit ' and enter Y= -3.5 (minus 3.5).
  •  Hit ENTER.
  •  Click anywhere away from the drawing on the screen, or hit ESC.
  •  Select Layer 3.
  •  Hit CTRL+A.
  •  Hit 'X' and Snap to ANY corner.
  •  Hit ' and enter Y= -32 (minus 32).
  •  Hit ENTER.
  •  Click anywhere away from the drawing on the screen, or hit ESC.

 

  •  Select Layer 2 again.
  •  Hit CTRL+A.
  •  Hit CTRL+H to 'Set Handles'.
  •  Set a Gravity Snap at the point shown to set a handle there.

 

  •  Hit 'N' to Duplicate.
  •  Hit ' and enter Y=9.
  •  Check 'Reference Point'
  •  Hit OK.
  •  Gravity Snap to the corner of the leg as shown. The Shelf support will jump up 9 units after you set the point.
  •  Click anywhere away from the drawing on the screen, or hit ESC.

 

  •  Select Layer 4.
  •  Hit CTRL+A.
  •  Set a 'Handle' at the point shown.
  •  Hit 'M' to 'Move' the shelf.
  •  Set a Gravity Snap at the point shown on the corner of the 2x4.

 

  •  Zoom in if you like . . .
  •  Hit 'X' and set a point back on the 2x4.
  •  Hit ' and enter Y= 1/2.
  •  Hit ENTER.
  •  Solid Shade the Table. Hotkey F8.
