Unfold a Box

 

  • A tutorial to demonstrate basic concepts.
    • The basic 3D drawing contains:
      • Explode a Solid
      • Select rotation points
      • Use Positive and Negative angle values
  • Step 1
    • Start by creating a 3D Box that fits your window with plenty of room to unfold it.
    • Select the Box and then select Solid->Solid Explode.
      • This will convert it to 2 Planes and a Grid.
    • Select what appears to be the whole box again and now select Edit->(>)Explode.
      • Now you have 6 Planes.
    • Use Gravity Snap to select the rear Plane by the bottom corner.
    • Hit 'R' for Rotate.
    • Select X axis and enter -90 for the angle value.
      • Negative angles go Clockwise.
    • Hit ENTER.
  • Step 2
    • Select the front Plane and Hit 'R' again.
    • Enter 90 for angle value.
    • Hit ENTER.
  • Step 3
    • Select the sides and use -90 for clockwise.

  • Step 4
    • And positive 90 for counterclockwise.

 

  • Step 5
    • Grab the top by a corner
  • Step 6
    • And hit 'M' to move it to the corner of the side.
    • Hit the period key or right-click the mouse to snap it in place.
